Alvin Han - Flu forecasting in Singapore

On 2nd September at 10am UK time, Dr Alvin Han from the Communicable Disease Agency, Singapore’s Public Health Agency, will present some of the agency’s recent efforts in national flu forecasting.

Like other countries in Southeast Asia with tropical climates, Singapore experiences persistent, year-round circulation of many respiratory viruses, including seasonal influenza viruses and SARS-CoV-2. Unlike the temperate seasonality familiar to many in Europe, this endemicity presents distinct epidemiological and public health challenges. The Communicable Disease Agency in Singapore utilises multiple surveillance indicators to track and assess influenza and COVID-19 activity, including generating nowcasts and forecasts of incidence and healthcare utilisation. This seminar provides an overview of these surveillance systems, offering insights into public health practice in Singapore and its approach to managing endemic respiratory disease.
