• Identify the reporting challenge and its predictability
• Understand the data structure and available history
• Obtaining reporting triangles in STLT settings: line lists with reference and report dates, or successive snapshots of aggregate data
• Data versioning: automating downloads at fixed times, using version-controlled data platforms where available, archived PDF reports as fallback
• When ideal data aren’t available: imputing missing reference dates from other date fields, using sentinel data extrapolated to the population
• Handling rolling sums: need to recover daily or weekly counts before constructing a reporting triangle
